Can someone PLEASE tell me....

What in the hell we ate for dinner last night?  Here's a photo...

Now doesn't that look like a hamburger patty?  That's what I thought when I bought it.  Now here's a photo of what came out of the box.

Yeah, that's what I thought.  I tried to cook it in the pan... not so much.  Then I put it in the oven.  It still didn't look right.  Finally, in desperation, I microwaved it.  It never, ever looked like the box.  I wouldn't eat it.  Lance said it tasted a little bit like meatloaf.  Jack just shoveled it in... he was starving to death.

First person that can tell me what it was wins my undying admiration and affection.  Short of that, take pity on my family, please!

  1. Hi, I have been following your blog for a sometime now. I think it kinda looks like Salsbery steak. Or a big Boca Burger.

  2. The consistency was more Boca Burger-y than anything else. The only thing I know is that it isn't rabbit, duck or chicken. Mystery meat, anyone?

  3. Hmmm...maybe lamb or goat. I know that when we travel in Arab countries the word "beef" seems to just mean "not chicken". Maybe Russia is similar?! Probably best not to think too much about it.

  4. It translates to:
    "Powerful" cutlets of veal, choice/elite.
The hammer thing says "price smasher" or something.

I have no guesses, but I will guess that you were extremely smart to not eat it! :)

  7. You can buy me a sandwich when you get home... as long as it's not veal!

  10. Oh my gosh! I am cracking up. You are definitely getting the full Russian experience. What great stories to share with the boys as they are older.

  11. "Price cutter! Bogatyr select lamb cutlets"

It would have been interesting to see the ingredient list.

And you probably had to fry it in an inch of oil to make it work.

  12. Oh, you guys are sooo much braver then we were while in Russia. Have you tasted the BBQ Steak Pringles yet? (Umm, not recommended.) Maybe that's why we broke down on the last day and order room service for everyone. $35 for a cheeseburger and fries... ouch! But we did each get our own baby Heinz Ketchup bottle. ;)
